It was not so long ago that the Super Milq was a twinkle in Romy's eye,and now it has come to the point he is a strong proponent of DSET (not to be confused with DH-SET). I am always a big believer in the power of topology. I was thinking about...

Getting OT, but: Another important sub-set is that many or even most who put together a system do not have any sort of well-developed personal references. Many simply hope to get "better sound" from their next purchase, and in these cases purchasing...

I'm not sure if the Salamander-style rack (wooden shelves supported by nuts and washers on threaded rods) will support 800 pounds, but if you put heavier items near the bottom then a wide heavy-duty version might be fine. Besides Salamander, some ot...

Obviously I have not carefully read everything you've written about Melquiades, mostly because I have just been stopped in my tracks by the ML2s, so I still have a lot to think about as it is. But if anything could "sell" Melquiades I'd guess i...

Thanks Rowuk,I have used resistor switches before. In this case it's for a studio mixer so I want potentiometers. I'll look at the Alps stuff, thanks. I realise that question might not be received as "advanced audio practice" but it fulfils my object...

I have a 10KVA Isolation transformer that feeds on two separate 8 ga cables running direct from the house meters into an breaker into de transformer. This breaker is the one I use to turn my system on and off. The Isolation transformer recieves two ...

As I have shared several times here, I happen to regard the Lowther as nothing more than a means to an end. Partly because of this, I have taken my lumps with this marque. Today, I am pleased to have finally made the speakers I imagined 6 years ago...

Well, thanks for the heads up, I was planning on giving myself a PP2000 for Xmas, now I have to re think this.I used to have a 10Kva Isolation transformer and a DIY sort of Line conditioning system with a bunch of nice 4.7 mfd caps between Positive ...

"I would not trust any seller who clamed that they tested them." -- R.B.How annoying that your words were prophetic, Romy. The 6N6P tubes just arrived from St. Petersberg in a plastic mailing bag rather than a box, and one tube...

I think I would relate my own DIY experience more with Colonel Aureliano Buendia making his golden fish.
I have been tempted to ask you about listening methodology before this, but decided not to, think there probably isn't a formula. Paying atte...

Thank you Romy,
<<The multiamping with Super Melquiades was made with intend to optimize the output transformers and to eliminate the interference between the inductance of the upper bass driver’s coil and the MF driver. I still use the speake...

The best hi-fi LF I have heard came from modified "pro" units (multi-15s) that had a LOT of power thrown at them; and furthermore, the system was "managed" by an... equalizer (albeit, done in real time...). This is not to speak of its FR performance...

How do I hate DIY? Let me count the ways...Is there some reason you cannot make through-holes to facilitate soldering leads to your copper sheet? Use a hot iron (800 F) and plenty of aggressive flux to pre-tin the holes... Stand parts on short leads...
TH,this is very much NOT a DIY site. It is however probably the most complete collection of „SOUND as it is related to horns“ articles.I suggest that you check out things here first before asking „the wrong“ questions. The horn sy...

TH,Avoiding mistakes is something that we would like to do. It saves time and money BUT unfortunately the science of building loudspeakers is based on specs, not „Tone“ or „Sound“. Being an engineer can help make beautiful drawings but we all learn t...

hello everybody
I am interrested by manufacturing this type of multicellular horn and I would like to know who you would parmit the worksheet for this type of cab [img]http://i55.ser...
I … use a slightly different approach. I use the center-tap as a fixed DC balance (cathode bias resistor solo from c.t. to ground) and use the balance pot with the bypass cap only to ground for adjustable AC balance. Regardl...

Over time I have observed that, in most cases, one quickly turns the corner from "enough' connector mass to suddenly arrive at "too much" connector mass. I started out with a cable clamp like Jessie shows for my 6 gauge "dedicated ground" wire for j...

Here is an idea from Walker Audio that actually makes some sense in some cases:http://walkeraudio.com/?product=valid-points-resonance-control-kitTo be sure you understand, I am NOT suggesting you spend anywhere near 625USD for something like this. R...

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who is overwhelmed by compression drivers. I tried the A7s way back when they were current and everyone's favorite, and I tried various modifications with like-minded friends; but I came to the concl...

That just about sums it up, all right. You'd think it would be obvious that cartridges are not a viable subject for DIY/boutique building and/or modding; but, apparently, they are yet approached in this way by a small "underground" army of hopefuls,...
Again, I am NOT a collector - at all. I am only in it for the music
I am not a collector too. I collect some very specific drivers only to take some good parts out of them which are not available anywhere else. I do not c...

Sorry, I couldn't resist the header...Electricity was OK today and either the X/O parts are already breaking in or I had a "lull" in the expected parts shut-down. Anyway, I actually wound up seriously listening to some serious music! Even without f...

Adrian, the more I read on the subject, the more it looks like the "universal" approach to solving power problems is a notion only consumers would swallow. As for "the difference in the power supply design" between your amps and Romy's making a differ...

It is true that a given battery will have "special" requirements for optimal charging. Also, where the battery is in a circuit and the specific demands of use can influence how and/or how quickly it "wants to be charged", not to mention different ba...

I suspect the APS does more or less the same that my friend proposed. It probably has a class D amp which makes some kind of PWM with a so so smoothing circuit, hence the tooth saw trace of the voltage line, some PS which probably is a swit...

Jazz modulesoff the shelf for for under 10k id look at these.$4k.. and very interesting. inconsistent with the "rules" Romy has set forth for us...but then if you really want to go the route of the cat you'll need to abandon commercial speakers...

Well, the electricity suddenly switched gears today, and it entered into an entirely unknown level of cleanliness; and what do you know? The "cables" pretty much became a non-factor. I suppose this means that noise is A Very Big Issue mos...
